Rain Delay

After parking at the Saumon B&B, last night, and nearly tipping over as we skidded backward down the loose gravel with the front wheel locked and turned to lock to the left, we decided to not stay the second night. The room was the most expensive, was the smallest and we had twin beds to top it off. The house clearly showed to was over 100 years old and was sagging in many places. The bathroom for us was down stairs, an across the slanting floor. We shared breakfast with a couple from France who were delightful! The woman was a travel advisor in Paris and they had traveled extensively over the world. They recommended that one of their top three places to visit (also Namibia and Botswana) was a small island groupoff of Scotland called Orkney, where there are remarkable Viking ruins. Now another bucket list. She recommends one week which is the limit. After breakfast we discussed not to stay another nite. When we told Lisa, the owner, she was obviously upset and called us irresponsible for not telling her yesterday. When we explained that the driveway was too challenging she told us that other bikers did just fine. We didn’t leave on very good terms with her. She used a different exchange rate to ding us for a few extra American dollars. We didn’t tell her we knew better, and just left. This was a four star rated B&B that was really a two. We go into the National Park Forrillon and stopped at Fort Peninsula a World War II defense site. We learned that 20 ships were sunk by German U-boats in the Saint Lawrence! We drive around the park and as we get close to the point it starts to rain. We had called ahead before we checked out from the B&B and found a hotel room for cheaper. Parking was level and paved. We check in to take the afternoon off, hoping to get some laundry done. We string out wet cloths in front of the heater using bungee cords. It rains all day. Good thing there is a double header Monday night football line up tonight. Go Eagles!
