I enjoyed my visit to relatives Patricia and Jeffs house. The kids, Ansley, Mackenzie, and Wyatt were fun. I start off in mid forties temps which are ten degrees warmer than the high yesterday. Plus the sun is out! To make it to the end of the motorcycle run I have 330 miles to make today. I am heading to Lee and Kathy’s home in Chesterton. It warms up slightly but not enough for me to shed any layers. I’m traveling into a very stiff headwind which causes me to fuel more often than usual. I’m buffeted around and when I pass a semi truck it gets worse. I can hardly stay in my lane. I have had time over the last few days to think back on the last two months. When we were headed east on this very road on August 31, it was over 60 degrees warmer! There are a lot of emotions running the full range, coursing through me while I think back on the trip. The most prominent of these is the friendship Lee and I have. This kind of trip would not have been possible or fun without this type of friendship. We are already trying to find the next adventure. Thanks Lee, I love you! Six hours later I pull into the driveway and rev the motor, this causes the garage door to open! Lee and Kathy are there to great me. We celebrate with vodka martinis, a shot of our favorite tequila and hugs. The odometer says I traveled 9,500 miles, the calendar says it has been 50 days, and the scale says I gained 2 pounds! I can’t imagine how many fun tickets we cashed in but we never ran out. I haven’t checked my accounts to determine what I spent, I’m not sure I even care, you can’t put a price on this kind of good time. Lee reminds me of the moment when we were in a Newfoundland gas station laughing with some locals when an older gentleman pulled up in his truck and said, ” I admire you boys. You boys are doing what I wanted to do do years ago, I have two motorcycles in my garage, and I always wanted to do a trip like you are doing. Do these things when now while you still can! We didn’t need any convincing, but it really captured in a moment, our feelings for the trip. I hope those of you that have been following the blog have at least enjoyed some of our adventures, I know it hasn’t been too exciting but that’s OK with us. Perhaps you learned so geography or history, I know we did. Those of you we have met on the trip who have joined the blog, we want to give you our heartfelt thanks for making our trip so special. The people made this trip, the stories and the memories we will cherish. Thank you.
